Safe Kids Chatham and Orange are currently partnering with local organizations and government agencies that provide family home visiting services and work directly with families to disseminate resources to protect children in their homes. Items may include baby gates, bath spout covers, door knob covers, and non-slip bath appliques to help prevent injuries from falls. Cable gun locks are available to prevent unintentional discharges and suicide from a firearm. Lock boxes, screwless cabinet locks, and medication disposal bags serve to keep medications out of the hands of children to prevent unintentional poisonings and overdose. Additionally, safe sleep sacks can help infants sleep without the need of blankets or other potentially harmful items around them.
For more information on the program, or how your organization or agency can partner to disseminate these home safety resources with families you work with, please contact the Safe Kids Chatham and Orange Coalition Coordinator at anna.stormzand@unchealth.unc.edu.
