Description
Safe Kids Chatham and Orange Coalitions administer a Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Diversion Program for Chatham and Orange counties. These classes are supported by coalition members and coordinated by the Safe Kids coordinator. The NC Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Diversion Program combines enforcement and education for individuals who are found in violation of state child passenger safety laws. Through this program, an individual ticketed with a CPS violation can have their ticket dismissed if they participate in a class. Once the cited individual has successfully completed the program, they turn in the appropriate paperwork to their district attorney or lawyer or present it on their assigned court date to have their violation dismissed. Providing education to cited persons promotes proper restraint use, reduces recidivism, and speeds up the court system within the county.
Safe Kids Chatham and Orange Diversion Program classes are currently being held virtually once a month for one hour. To be in compliance you must attend the one hour class and submit the $25 fee. You will be required to do a virtual car seat pre check before the class and have your child’s car seat or booster seat handy so that you can demonstrate correct use during the class. Please note we do not distribute free car seats as part of this program but can connect you with community resources.
